SUNY and the State of New York approved our plan for fall 2020 on July 1. Our plan aims to carry out the college’s mission — to nurture a community where students grow intellectually, thrive socially and live purposefully - while remaining vigilant against COVID-19. That will mean limiting person-to-person contact and in-person gatherings wherever possible, changing the college calendar, and increasing cleaning, disinfecting and monitoring measures campus-wide. Read the Full Plan Students Get Hands-On With Summer Research Seventeen SUNY Oneonta science students are getting hands-on lab experience during summer research projects on topics ranging from hydrofracking to beetle mating habits. Learn More About Virtual Events Billboard Names Oneonta a "Top Music Business School" For the second year in a row, Billboard magazine has named SUNY Oneonta to its list of the nation’s “Top Music Business Schools.” Oneonta is one of 28 colleges and universities across the country featured in the music industry magazine’s April 25 issue. Read More About Our Music Industry Program Apply Visit Request Info Profiles Faculty and Staff Blake Fleming Percussionist Blake Fleming has been featured by the biggest music publications and magazines, wrote “The Book of Rhythm,” and toured the United States and Canada opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in stadiums of 14,000 people. But none of those experiences compare to the feeling he gets while teaching someone how to play the drums. Blake Fleming >> Alumni Mallory Kerman As a freshman studying Fashion & Textiles at SUNY Oneonta, Mallory Kerman had never owned a pair of Levi’s. Peek into her closet now and you’ll find SIXTY pairs of the classic denim brand. Mallory Kerman >> Students Garrett Camasi Garrett Camasi wasn’t able to make it to his freshman orientation at SUNY Oneonta, but he had a very good excuse: He was photographing Asian elephants at a Sri Lankan orphanage with nonprofit Veterinarians International. Garrett Camasi >> Faculty and Staff Rebecca Harrington SUNY Oneonta Health Educator Rebecca Harrington isn’t afraid to tackle the taboo topics. After all, two of her best-known on-campus initiatives have been the Hump Day Wagon (a weekly, traveling contraceptive giveaway) and Sex & Pizza (an engaging sex education program for incoming freshmen). Rebecca Harrington >> Faculty and Staff Kiara Pipino Just like Hermia in Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” SUNY Oneonta Assistant Professor of Acting, Directing and Movement Kiara Pipino is little, but she is fierce. And her students know that better than anyone. Kiara Pipino >> Students Eileen Liang I want to be an entertainment lawyer, doing copyright and writing contracts for artists and athletes. Not just in the U.S. but internationally. I speak English, Mandarin, Korean and Spanish. So that would be my dream job. Eileen Liang >> Students Danielle Swierczyna The opportunities I’ve had, especially to travel, I will never forget. The summer after my freshman year, our tennis team went to Portugal, and that was the first time I had been overseas. It was incredible. Being able to see and live in another culture temporarily is so eye-opening. Danielle Swierczyna >> Students Ryan O’Reilly I want to be a middle school Spanish teacher, probably like eighth grade. It’s a good age where you can interact with them and they can start to form their own opinions and add substance to a conversation. It’s really when they dive into language and start learning about why it’s so important to learn other languages and how it can connect people. Ryan O’Reilly >> Students Amani Johnson I love how there are a lot of women in my major because computer science doesn’t really have a lot of women in the field. So that’s great to see. I wanted to prove – especially as a black woman – that anyone can be a computer science major. If men try to talk down to you, just show them what you can do! Amani Johnson >> Students Isabel Mendoza My ideal job is anything in the theater or media world. I definitely want to look into directing and editing. My biggest dream would probably be working on a TV or movie set, either working behind the scenes or onstage – I love both realms. I want to be in that environment. Isabel Mendoza >> Students Ryan Berkowitz My best experiences so far have definitely been just hanging out with the friends I’ve met in my dorm. Everyone in my hallway, we all get together, hang out, go out ...
